Italian Bergamot from Calabria is the common thread that unites these five scents and is woven into the construction of each fragrance in the collection. The house of Ermenegildo Zegna has sourced the Bergamot crop from a single field planted and harvested for the sole purpose of creating Essenze. Just as Ermenegildo Zegna uses only the finest fibers and fabrics to create its iconic fashion collection, the Essenze Collection is a crafted from the most exquisite raw materials, recast as an exotic essence. World-renowned perfumers Pierre Negrin, Frank Voelkl, Harry Fremont and Jacques Cavallier constructed these individual scents as the ultimate expression of raw materials and their own unique origins. Inspired by the pinnacle of the Ermenegildo Zegna Collection, Couture, which plays to perfection the bars of the modern man’s taste, each fragrance in the Essenze Collection is envisioned with a unique personality and distinctive aura for the sophisticated.
Italian Bergamot is the lead scent in the Essenze Collection. Made with Italian bergamot oil, it is supported by the warmth and sensuality of neroli, rosemary and vetiver. “I wanted to capture the essence of the eau de cologne with a 21st Century vision,” says Pierre Negrin. “Using Bergamot, the most celebrated noble Italian citrus note, together with sleek woods, this fragrance is intended for the refined urban man.”
Sicilian Mandarin is formulated with masterfully extracted mandarin oil that’s woven with stitches of Italian bergamot, spearmint, petitgrain and moss to enhance its modern fusion. “Mandarin is the most complex citrus with an almost juicy floralcy,” explains Harry Fremont. “I wanted to showcase the natural mandarin and counterbalance it with modern musks and captive molecules.”
Javanese Patchouli contrasts the dry and lush, hot and cold facets of patchouli prisma. Italian bergamot, pink pepper, tonka bean and cedar wood add precision to this handcrafted composition. “Javanese Patchouli has a unique profile,” says Frank Voelkl, “making it a challenge to highlight all of its individual facets.”
Indonesian Oud is crafted around the exquisitely rare oud wood with a complex and fragrance resembling few others. Rose, amber and patchouli add depth and complexity while Italian bergamot brings forth a unique freshness. “Oud wood, with its deeply intoxicating balsamic woodiness, is extremely compelling and captures the mind, body and spirit,” says Jacques Cavallier. “Together with precious rose and alluring amber, I wanted to create a sultry dream of a far away land.”
Florentine Iris is a blend of three iris varieties to reveal earthiness and warmth. Uplifting and crisp, Italian bergamot weaves through the heart of this masterwork developed by Cavallier, adding a sophisticated freshness. Jasmine, paired with violet and musk enhance the modern style of Florentine Iris by creating an intoxicating composition.
Each fragrance is housed in a modern glass bottle and features a custom fabric label with a corresponding colored border that reflects the key notes in each scent.
